"If you need assistance from SVDP, please call the church at 512-328-3220. If you call after business hours, select option 137. Leave your name, phone number, and address (required) and someone will call you the next business day."
Home Visits - We currently meet our neighbors in need in person, with two Vincentians per visit. During each visit, we listen to their stories, pray with them, connect them with existing social programs, and offer financial assistance for rent, utilities, clothing, food, and furniture. Our financial aid all comes from SJN parishioner donations. This money is used to meet short term needs, not to enable chronic ongoing problems. We limit both the dollar amount and frequency we serve any one family. Last year we helped 615 households.
Thrift Store - We both collect gently used household items for the Thrift Store to sell as well as provide service hours to sort, display, price, and act as cashiers for Thrift Store items. We also provide vouchers to the Thrift Store for our neighbors in need if clothing or furniture is required.
Back to School Program - We organize and collect money to buy the children of our neighbors in need new backpacks and new back-to-school supplies during July and August. We deliver the backpacks to the children either directly or through schools and agencies. Last year we helped 500 students with backpacks and Walmart gift cards.
Christmas Giving Program - We organize and collect money and gifts for needy Austin area families during the Christmas season. Parishioners can either adopt a family, choose an ornament detailing the wishes of one family member, or donate money toward HEB gift cards which provide a special holiday meal for these neighbors. We and parish volunteers also deliver the gifts and HEB cards which can be a very rewarding experience. Nominated families come through SVdP home visits, school councilor referrals, and other Catholic Churches. Last Christmas we helped more than 200 families and 800 people.
