Dedication Mass, reception parking procedures

February 8th, 2012

In order to accommodate all who wish to attend the Dedication Mass and Reception on March 17, 2012, please make note of the following very important parking information:

1. Due to shuttle bus turn lanes, a tent for overflow and vendor parking, the SJN lot will be reduced in capacity. Parking on the SJN lot will ONLY be by permit:  ADA-approved handicap parking permit and/or license plate, VIPs from the community with pre-issued SJN permits and clergy.  This access will only be at the Capital of Texas Highway 360 entrance.

2. For everyone’s convenience, beginning at 1:30 p.m., March 17, 2012, transportation to and from the church will be provided by shuttle bus from the parking garage at Palisades West, 6300 Bee Cave Road, nearest the intersection of Capital of Texas Highway 360 and Bee Cave Road.  This is a very large garage with a 700-space capacity.  Buses will run continuously until 10 p.m. that day. Only the shuttle buses will be using our Bee Cave Road entrance.

3. Parking lot entrances and traffic signals will be monitored by off-duty police officers.

4. Additional details on the off-site parking location will be explained in the coming weeks.

Inspired art

November 29th, 2011

Submitted by SJN parishioner and guest blogger Pat Flathouse

On Nov. 20, 2011, the day of the SJN Open House and Tours of the new church, Julie Martin explained to me the meaning of a poster taped to the door of a refrigerator in the Morris Hall kitchen.  She told me that the picture shown below came to her at 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2011.

Julie said that she had experienced a night of deep thinking, going through the planning for the wine and cheese event over and over in her head even to the point of questioning if they could really do this for so many people.  The wine and cheese Open House RSVP count was nearing 540.  Julie told me that she got up out of bed and began praying.  As she prayed she began to cut out pictures and glue them to a piece of card stock.

Julie said, “My first thoughts were about how Mary Urbanowski and I were asked to co-chair the wine and cheese event.  I cut out and glued pictures of cheese trays and wine to the upper left hand side of my poster.

“Mary and I had immediately agreed when asked to do the wine and cheese portion of the Open House, but then we heard talk about the numbers possibly being 1,000.  That troubled me, but in my thoughts I remembered about the loaves of bread and fishes that Jesus provided to the multitudes of people.  I cut out and glued a picture of loaves of bread and scattered the fish across the bottom of my picture.  I also thought about the disciples being afraid in their boats, and Jesus told them to trust Him and cast their nets into the water, so I cut out a picture of fishermen casting their nets into the sea and glued it near the bottom of the picture.

“Well, I thought, we didn’t have nets, but we have e-mail, and we used that method of communication to ask the parishioners of St. John Neumann to help with this event.  We were going to need many hands to provide hospitality and food for this big event and the parishioners responded.  There were 33 volunteers in all and their willingness and love were like the promises of heaven and the sweet smelling fruits and flowers I envision there, so I cut out pictures of fruit and flowers to glue on the right side of the picture.

“I suddenly realized as I created my poster that Jesus was telling me that this ‘Celebration …is Easy!’ and we would have the support we needed.  It was a big reminder that Jesus loves us all, so I glued the heart in the center of the picture.

“As I looked at my picture, I knew then that I did not have to worry any more about what would happen at the wine and cheese event because it was all in God’s good hands. The report is that the final count was 600 people and the event was a labor of love from all of us.”
