Sampling of church pieces

Trinity
Mosaic measures: 9′ 10″ tall, 7′ 0″ on each side

The church is designed with a “Trinity of Domes,” the largest dome being over the altar area and the two smaller domes bordering the nave and narthex. Together, the three domes form a triangle representing the Holy Trinity. The interior seating arrangement as well as the Cardinal and Theological Virtues floor mosaics down the center aisle and surrounding the sanctuary form a cross. The “Trinity of Domes” over the cross formation of the seating and mosaics in the sanctuary provides the theme, Trinity Through the Cross. This truth is evident each time we make the Sign of the Cross:  in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Doors

Approaching the main entry, four massive doors, 5 in. thick and rising to 13 feet with a hand-carved cross in the center, invite us to enter into the church and the mystery of the cross.

Mosaics

Continuing on this journey, down the center aisle, a floor mosaic symbolizing the theme, ‘Trinity Through the Cross,’ introduces us to mosaics of the four cardinal virtues: temperance, fortitude, justice and prudence, which guide all of our morally good actions as we walk through life and upon which all the other moral virtues hinge; surrounding the sanctuary: the three theological virtues of faith, hope and charity, which invite us to live in a deeper relationship with the Holy Trinity, especially through the sacramental life of the Church.

Under the Dome

Under the all-encompassing center dome and ascending the stairs of the sanctuary, we approach the crucifix, altar, ambo and tabernacle where we, as a Eucharistic community, experience Christ’s redemptive act through the Mass and are invited to live out our faith through the Word and the sacraments.

Tabernacle

The Tabernacle, with a burst of rays emanating from the Chi-Rho, is centered on a back wall, the motif of the wall representing the Tree of Life. The Lord’s Prayer is continued as it is etched into the marble shelf below the Tabernacle: ‘Give us this day our daily bread.’

Crucifix

The 15-foot, hand carved, wooden crucifix hangs impressively from the dome over the altar area. The face of Christ looks out upon his people begging his Father’s mercy upon the world.

Mary of the Church

Adjoining the church with its separate entrance is the Adoration Chapel. Over the entrance door is a mosaic of the Blessed Mother and Child, entitled “Mary, Mother of the Church.”

Processional Cross

The gilded processional cross has two sides. The front depicts the crucified Christ. The reverse side depicts a resurrection cross studded with jewels representing the five wounds of Christ.

Processional Candles

The four processional candles are bronzed and Baroque in style. The altar servers will carry these crosses and rest them in holders on the altar.
