PAT FLATHOUSE Pat and her husband, Virgil, have four boys and 6 ¾ grandchildren—all of whom live in Texas but not in the Central Texas area. Pat has been in the parish since its beginning and was the first director of religious education at SJN. In recent years, she has been teaching memoir writing classes and currently has one at SJN through the OPUS ministry.  She was instrumental in coordinating the writing for the Pilgrimage through Advent Audio CD set produced by the parish several years ago. Pat thoroughly enjoys the relationships she has made through her Christ Renews His Parish retreat experience, and she also enjoys the OPUS activities in our parish.
MANNY FLORES The Flores Family consists of Manny, Janice and their two daughters, Jessica and Caitlin. Manny and his family have been parishioners at St. John Neumann since moving to Austin from St. Louis in 1999. They are and have been involved in the following ministries: usher, catechist, Catholic Charities, Mobile Loaves & Fishes and various sponsorships for the Knights of Columbus and El Buen Samaritano. Manny is the chief executive officer / managing partner of LatinWorks where he oversees agency operations, strategic direction, public relations initiatives and client relations. He is the former vice president of marketing development at Anheuser-Busch. Manny is a business management graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
TERESA KLEPAC Teresa, along with her husband Bill and two grown sons, Allan and Matt, have been part of the St John Neumann family since 1998. She is a member of Christ Renews His Parish retreat team No. 19 and has been in CRHP outreach teams to St. Michael Episcopal Church, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, St. Ignatius Catholic Church and Saint Mary Cathedral. Teresa is also a facilitator for the Austin Diocese Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Adult and Teen programs. Using the software database programs developed by Austin Computing Solutions (a company formed by Teresa and Bill in 1999), Teresa works with churches and dioceses from across the United States to help them more effectively communicate with and manage their membership. Teresa and Bill were awarded the Lumen Gentium Award from the Austin Diocese in 2004.
KAREN MAY Karen is a cradle Catholic from Dallas. Karen married her husband Mike in 1991, and they have four daughters: Ashley, Lindsey, Jenna and Vanessa. Karen graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a degree in music therapy before staying home to raise her girls. Karen’s Catholic faith has always been strong, and the May family joined SJN in 1999 when they moved to the Westlake area. Karen attended Christ Renews His Parish retreat 14 and was spiritual director for women’s teams 17 and 20. She has led many Bible studies and is a regular attendee in current studies. Karen has been the music leader for Vacation Religion School for several years, provided music for the SJN preschool in previous years and has sung in the Christmas choir. Karen founded the family religious education program at SJN, co-founded a Catholic couples book club and is currently leading a large group of eighth graders in a biweekly “faith circle” class that challenges the children to understand and develop their faith. In her free time — which isn’t much — Karen likes to hang out with her family, cook, read spiritual books and exercise.
JAN ROESSLEIN Jan and her husband, Charlie, have been members of St. John Neumann since 1997. They have two children: Katie (lives and works in Dallas) and Jack (sophomore at Purdue University). Jan participated in Christ Renews His Parish team No. 14, co-founded (along with Marcia Rohrer) the previous women’s group (Women’s Connexion), sponsored two parish women’s retreats, taught religious education classes and currently facilitates Catholic Scripture Study. Working with Fr. Kirby, Jan helped initiate the Pastoral Council at St. John Neumann. She is a previous member of the Eanes Education Foundation and a former secondary school language arts and social studies teacher. Jan is a graduate of the University of Kansas (BS Education) and William Paterson University (MA Communication Arts).
JIM SMOLIK Jim, his wife, Debbie, and their four daughters, Kelly, Erica, Brittany and Tiffany, have been members of St. John Neumann parish since 1984. Jim is a shareholder in the certified public accounting firm of Powell, Ebert & Smolik, P.C. Previously, he worked with KPMG Peat Marwick’s for 18 years (10 years as partner) in both Corpus Christi and Austin. Jim is active in numerous organizations and has served on several boards, including the Austin Catholic Diocese Finance Board for over 17 years, St. Michael Academy and Caritas of Austin. Jim received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
MICHAEL URBANSKI Michael and his wife, Lisa, were married in New Orleans in 2002 and have been members of St. John Neumann Parish since they moved to Austin in 2003. Michael is originally from Mishawaka, Ind., and Lisa is from Oakdale, La. The family was blessed with the arrival of Carmen in 2007. Both Michael and Lisa were members of Christ Renews His Parish retreat teams 25, and Michael has served as the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus. Michael is the co-owner (with parishioner Rene Salazar) of Handyman Connection. In the past he was vice president for Trans Tech Electric and superintendent for Hoar Construction. Michael is an Urban Planning and Development graduate of the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University.
RICK YBARRA Rick is originally from El Paso. He and his wife, Amy, have been parishioners of St. John Neumann since 2002. They have a beautiful 3 ½ year old daughter, Annika. Rick was a member of Christ Renews His Parish retreat team 26. Rick’s career has mainly been in banking and private wealth management. Rick holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and is currently a licensed financial advisor with Blue Pacific Capital Management.
