Fr. Bud Roland is our pastor. A native of Amarillo, Texas, he studied music, gerontology and the humanities. He holds an undergraduate degree in history from St. Edward’s University. Prior to seminary, Reverend Roland worked in social services in a variety of governmental and nonprofit organizations benefitting the elderly and the poor. He attended the University of Dallas and the University of St. Thomas in Houston where he was awarded a Masters of Divinity. Reverend Roland was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in January 1999, and since that time has served at St. Louis Catholic Church and Saint Mary Cathedral in Austin. Reverend Roland enjoys reading, music, travel and watching college football and basketball.
Fr. Adrian Chishimba is our associate pastor. He is from the African country of Zambia, where three-quarters of the population is Catholic. He grew up around missionaries, so he first considered becoming a missionary priest. He entered the pre-novitiate program of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Zambia in 1996. In 2002, he returned to Zambia, serving as the Oblate Superior’s administrative assistant until the end of 2003 when he was assigned to the staff of the Oblate Radio Station, where he served until June 2006. Fr. Adrian left the radio station to earn his master’s degree in theology at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio in 2008 but still didn’t know where he belonged. After much prayer, he felt called to become a diocesan priest. Together with former Austin Bishop Gregory Aymond, he discerned his vocation and was accepted as a candidate in 2008. He was immediately assigned to St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin for his pastoral year and at the same time did his pastoral clinical education at Seton Medical Center in Austin. He served at St. Mary Parish in Wimberley while earning his master’s of Divinity and was ordained a priest in 2010. His first assignment as a priest has been at St. John Neumann Church! - At what grade level do students receive the sacrament of confirmation in the Austin Diocese?
